1984 2017-05-18 2017-10-08 Following multiple successful runs in London, George Orwell's dystopian novel-turned play is finally in New York. Producers Sonia Friedman and Scott Rudin have brought to stage an adaptation of Orwell's classic novel, 1984, to the newly restored Hudson Theatre. The adaptation was created, written, and directed by Robert Icke and Duncan Macmillan. The play follows the story of an employee of the Ministry of Truth, Winston Smith, who rewrites newspaper articles to support the views of the Party. Winston rewrites the truth, keeps a diary, and falls in love, all under the watchful eye of Big Brother. Many of the concepts from 1984 have become common in today's culture and the play's story tells a relevant and timely tale that is fascinating to watch.
