The last record shop in the Bronx is on its final spin. A rising DJ isn’t ready to let the music die.

Written by MacArthur Fellow Dominique Morisseau and directed by Kamilah Forbes, executive producer of the Apollo Theater, Mix and Master tells the story of a music-driven clash of generations, pulsing with hip-hop and jazz. As vinyl spins and tensions rise, what begins as a battle for the shop becomes a reckoning over legacy, survival, and the courage it takes to stay in the mix.

Featuring live DJ sets throughout, this Broadway world premiere turns up the volume on the fight to keep the culture alive.

Mix and Master on Broadway Background

A New Dominique Morisseau Play

Mix and Master is a new play by Dominique Morisseau, the Tony-nominated playwright behind Skeleton Crew. The production marks the world premiere of the work and is being presented on Broadway by Roundabout Theatre Company. Kamilah Forbes, known for her work on Between the World and Me, directs the production.

A Broadway World Premiere

Rather than transferring from an Off-Broadway or regional production, Mix and Master is receiving its world premiere directly on Broadway at the Todd Haimes Theatre. The production is part of Roundabout Theatre Company’s 2026–2027 Broadway season.

An Acclaimed Creative Team

The production reunites Morisseau with Ruben Santiago-Hudson, who previously directed her Broadway play Skeleton Crew. This time Santiago-Hudson appears onstage alongside Tony Award winner Kara Young. With hip-hop, jazz and live DJ performances incorporated into the production, Mix and Master combines contemporary music culture with Morisseau’s established interest in community, identity and generational change.
