A London judge who champions sexual assault victims is thrown into moral crisis when her own teenage son is accused of rape by a classmate.
What's Inter Alia Like?
A Woman of Conviction
Inter Alia centers on Jessica Parks, a maverick London Crown Court judge who has built her career championing justice, particularly in cases of sexual violence. Sharp, compassionate, and fiercely principled, she is determined to change a system she knows isn't always fair.
A Life Under Pressure
But Jessica's life is a constant juggling act — balancing a high-powered career with the demands of marriage and motherhood, shouldering the majority of domestic and emotional labor while her husband Michael, a less successful barrister, remains a largely passive presence at home.
The Unthinkable
Everything unravels when her teenage son Harry is accused of rape by a classmate following a party. Suddenly the woman who has presided over countless sexual assault cases finds her professional convictions in direct conflict with her instinct to protect her child. The moral terrain she has navigated so confidently in the courtroom becomes deeply personal and impossibly complicated.
Themes & Style
The play explores the ambiguities of consent, the challenges of raising boys in the digital age, and the difficult questions parents face when their child stands accused of something unthinkable. Using live music, shifting sets, and flashbacks, the production blurs the boundaries between courtroom and home, mapping the intense psychological pressure bearing down on one woman from every direction.
Is Inter Alia Good for Kids?
Not suitable for children — themes of rape and sexual violence make it adult only.
