On February 27, 2018, the annual Kids’ Night on Broadway is back! On this one day of the year, kids age 18 and under can attend a participating Broadway show free of charge, when accompanied by an adult who has purchased a full-price ticket. (The discount takes effect as 50% off two tickets, when one is for a minor.)

This promotion is put on by the Broadway League, and is meant to attract theatregoers to certain shows at a traditionally less busy time of the year in the dead of winter. In addition to free tickets for kids, this evening also includes certain discount offers for restaurants and parking in the city.

Special Treats For Kids

In addition, select shows offer special perks for kids such as talkbacks and other activities. In addition to the Broadway shows in New York City, theatres around the country also partake in the experience with venues in multiple cities around the nation also making the event their own. As of last week, tickets are now on sale for this exciting event.

Participating Shows Include “Aladdin” And “The Lion King”

This year, 15 shows will participate in Kids’ Night on Broadway. In alphabetical order, these shows are: Aladdin, Anastasia, The Band’s Visit, Beautiful: The Carole King Musical, A Bronx Tale, Come From Away, Chicago, Farinelli and the King, Kinky Boots, The Lion King, Once On This Island, The Phantom of the Opera, School of Rock, SpongeBob SquarePants, and Wicked.

The Ambassador for the event this year is Lea Salonga, who is currently starring in the revival of Once on this Island. Salonga is also well known for her previous performances in such shows as Flower Drum Song, Miss Saigon, Allegiance, and Les Misérables.

Passion For Theatre

As Ambassador, Salonga will be taking part in press events to promote the evening. As the mother of a young performer herself, Salonga is especially passionate about sharing her love of theatre with children. This year, her daughter began her own performing career, playing the role of Alice in the Manila production of the musical Matilda.

When children are exposed to theatre from a young age, anything can happen! This year’s Kids’ Night on Broadway is a great opportunity for adults and children to share in the magic of theatre at a more affordable price.
