Free Tickets For Children Under 18 On February 28, 2017

Once a year, in the winter season, the Broadway League sponsors an event called Kids’ Night on Broadway, whereby those under the age of 18 are allotted one free ticket, when accompanied by an adult who pays full price.

So, a family of four could get two free tickets with two full-paying adults, but a parent with two children would only be able to get one free ticket. The upcoming Kids’ Night will take place on Tuesday, February 28, 2017, marking the 21st annual celebration of the event.

18 Shows In The Line Up

This year, 18 shows will participate. Those are: Beautiful: the Carole King Musical, Cats, Come From Away, In Transit, Dear Evan Hansen, August Wilson’s Jitney, Chicago, The Lion King, A Bronx Tale, Natasha, Pierre & The Great Comet of 1812, Aladdin, Waitress, Kinky Boots, The Phantom of the Opera, On Your Feet!, Significant Other, School of Rock – the Musical, and Wicked.

In addition to the free tickets, the promotional event includes other opportunities such as restaurant discounts, pre-theatre activities, parking discounts, and educational programs. These efforts are meant to attract theatregoers to Broadway at a time of year that is generally lower in demand, late February before the spring shows are underway, but after the rush of the holidays. Tickets Went On Sale This Morning; Crashed The Telecharge Site

Tickets for Kids’ Night on Broadway went on sale at 10:30am EST on Tuesday, December 6, 2016. At this time, the Telecharge site, which is the Shubert owned website used to sell a majority of Broadway show tickets, crashed. This was not a nefarious act, but rather a sign of great demand for Kids Night on Broadway.

After all, it’s not so often that free tickets are widely available on Broadway, especially to some of the most in-demand shows including Wicked and The Lion King. It can be noted that Hamilton is not on the list, as they do not have any availability to give out free tickets, nor the need for promotion. Another glaring show not on the list is The Book of Mormon, which is not only a top-earning show already, but is also not appropriate for children.

Most Anticipated And Highly Trafficked Promotional Event

While events in other cities take place throughout the year, the Broadway annual event is the most anticipated and highly trafficked promotion. For example, the Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania productions of Something Rotten! and An American in Paris will offer a similar promotion, as will the Nashville, Tennessee production of The Sound of Music, the Appleton, Wisconsin production of Finding Neverland, and the Hershey, Pennsylvania production of The Sound of Music.

An Inspirational Opportunity For Children Nationwide

The National Ambassador for the February 2017 event is Todrick Hall, who currently stars as Lola in Kinky Boots, and who first made a name for himself as a YouTube star.

In the press release for the event, Hall gave an inspirational message about how he started out as a young child from a small farming community in Texas, and how he had never dreamed that one day he could be appearing on Broadway.

Learn The Beauty Of Broadway

In this way, in the role of Ambassador, Hall is touting Kids’ Night on Broadway as an opportunity for children of all ages to know that they can and should follow their dreams.

Anything is possible, if you dedicate your time and energy, and focus your vision on your goals. In this way, Kids’ Night on Broadway is not only a promotional event for the Broadway industry in a lower-demand time of year, but also a chance for children to learn the beauty of Broadway, even if they don’t come from a family where Broadway shows are normally affordable.
