Wicked on Broadway
Wicked, the untold story of the witches of Oz, features music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz (Godspell, Pippin, Children of Eden) and book by Winnie Holzman (My So-Called Life, thirtysomething), and is based on the best-selling novel by Gregory Maguire. With musical staging by Tony Award-winner Wayne Cilento, Wicked is directed by 2003 and 2004 Tony Award winner Joe Mantello (Take Me Out, Glengarry Glen Ross).
The twists and turns of Gregory Maguire's incredibly imaginative back-story to The Wizard of Oz makes audiences literally gasp with delight. But not only that, Wicked is a heartfelt and honest story of love and friendship. As Richard Zoglin of Time Magazine put it, "If every musical had a brain, a heart, and the courage of Wicked, Broadway really would be a magical place!"
