My Son's a Queer on Broadway Background

Following sold-out and critically acclaimed runs in London’s West End and the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, the Olivier Award nominated play My Son's a Queer (But what can you do?) starring writer and performer Rob Madge, arrives on Broadway in February 2024.

Show Suddenly Cancelled on Broadway

Originally scheduled to begin previews on February 27, 2024 at the Lyceum Theatre, My Son's a Queer was abruptly cancelled on February 8, 2024. This is a very rare occurrence on Broadway to cancel so close to opening night, as significant amounts of investors money have already been spent on production and marketing.

The red carpet opening was planned for March 12, 2024 and the show was set to close after a limited 16 week run. All purchased tickets will be refunded. Ticket buyers should return to point of purchase for refunds.

Show Announces Plans To Open in 2025

The production claims to now open on Broadway in the 2025 season, at a yet-to-be-announced theatre - but this has never happened to any show that has been cancelled.

Reasons were not given for the shows cancellation, but more-often-than-not its a financial problem rather than creative problems.

Rob Madge Instagram Video Decries Cancellation

On February 8th, 2024 the writer and performer gave a rambling video announcing the shows cancellation, where he claims the show is just postponed, not cancelled. Madge did not give any reasons for the postponement, so it is obviously either a financial problem or a problem with the theatre landlord, The Shubert Organization.

What's My Son's a Queer Like?

This hilarious, poignant, and infectiously joyous one-person play follows the journey of a family as they explore their son's love for all things Disney, theatre, and their identity as a Queer human.

As much a hilarious ode to musical theatre and VHS tapes as it is the power of a family’s acceptance, the production beautifully weaves together themes of love and self-discovery with a pop-culture love-in for fairy tale fanboy/girls (and everyone in between).

Is My Son's a Queer Good for Kids?

This show is a beautiful story of how to unconditionally love and support a child who is different, but the show is not intended for children under the age of 16 years of age. Even then, it may not be appropriate for some adults of a weak disposition due to content.
