New York Theatre Workshop’s Off-Broadway staging of “Merrily We Roll Along” ran from Nov 2022 to Jan 2023. The show stars Jonathan Groff, Lindsay Mendez and Daniel Radcliffe These actors will reprise their off-Broadway roles in the Broadway production.

Other Off-Broadway Productions

The off-Broadway production was originally staged at London's Menier Chocolate Factory in 2012 and transferred to the West End in 2013. The show also ran at the Huntington Theatre in Boston 2017.

Original Broadway Show Abrupt Closing in 1981

The original 1981 show production was a storied fiasco. The show closed two weeks after opening due to poor ticket sales and that event spawned a famous documentary, “Best Worst Thing That Ever Could Have Happened.”

Show Extended To March 2024 Due To Strong Ticket Sales

The 2023 Broadway revival of Merrily We Roll Along was extended even before the show even opened. The extension was announced after unanticipated strong ticket sales for the show which was driven by interest in the show revival and the lead actors.

The fall 2023 staging was originally announced as a limited engagement through Jan. 21, 2024, but will now play until March 24, 2024.

What's Merrily We Roll Along Like?

With a book by George Furth and a score by Stephen Sondheim, the show tracks the friendship of three best college pals (played by Radcliffe, Groff and Mendez) over the course of 20 years.

Scenes Are Shown In Reverse Order

The show moves backwards in time and reveals how a composer's idealism and friendships were corrupted by success. The show starts with the disillusioned present and ends with their optimistic college years. The in-between scenes map out the breakdown.

Show Extends for Second Time

The show has extended its Broadway for a second time. Originally scheduled to play through Jan. 21, 2024, and later extended to March 24, the show revival will now continue at the Hudson Theatre until July 7, 2024.
