If/Then is the story of a 40 year-old woman named Elizabeth who moves back to New York City after a divorce for a new start. The show is structured in a “Sliding Doors”-style where two possible scenarios of one character’s life play out side by side.

What's If/Then Like?

With a rich and beautiful musical score, the show also incorporates interesting design elements. Two possible paths for Elizabeth are shown as the stories of “Liz” and “Beth,” where the former takes the advice of one friend and the latter takes the advice of another. Likewise, the design of the show fluctuates between red and blue color schemes in order to differentiate the two stories. Starring as Elizabeth is Idina Menzel, who debuted the role of Elphaba in Wicked.

Is If/Then Good for Kids?

Due to strong adult themes as well as adult language, the show is recommended for people over the age of 12. Children under the age of 4 are not permitted in the theatre.

If/Then is directed by Michael Greif who first cast Menzel in her break-out role of Maureen in Rent.
