A jukebox musical featuring the songs of The Go-Go’s, an all-female five-member band who are best known for their songs from the early 1980s.

Head Over Heels on Broadway Background

The story for the musical is based off a 16th century prose poem called Arcadia by Sir Philip Sidney, which is a tale of mistaken identity, jealousy, and scandal featuring gods and shepherds and dukes. The book for Head Over Heels is written by James Margruder, based off the original book from OSF written by Jeff Whitty (Avenue Q).

The Broadway production is directed by Michael Mayer (Spring Awakening, Hedwig and the Angry Inch), and the choreographer is Spencer Liff (Hedwig and the Angry Inch, "So You Think You Can Dance"). In addition, the musical supervisor, orchestrator, and arranger is Tom Kitt (SpongeBob SquarePants, Next to Normal, American Idiot). Head Over Heels comes to Broadway following a try-out at San Francisco’s Curran Theatre in April to May 2018. The show plays at the Hudson Theatre, which has recently been beautifully restored by the new owner, the Ambassador Theatre Group. With such a top-tier team, and delightfully catchy tunes by The Go-Go’s, Head Over Heels is sure to be a foot-stomping, light-hearted romp of a good time.

What’s Head Over Heels Like?

The Go-Go’s are a timeless 1980s band featuring, Belinda Carlisle, Charlotte Caffey, Jane Wiedlin, Gina Schock, and Kathy Valentine. The show includes some of their most memorable hit songs, including “We Got the Beat,” “Cool Jerk,” “Get Up and Go,” “Our Lips Are Sealed,” “Vacation,” “Head Over Heels,” “Lust to Love,” as well as Belinda Carlisle’s solo hits “Mad About You” and “Heaven is a Place on Earth.” The show is a celebration of love in all forms, with a joyful and quick-witted story that takes audiences on an extravagant journey, where everything (and everyone) are not quite what they seem. The show re-unites several members of the creative team of the recent revival of Hedwig and the Angry Inch, including not only director Michael Mayer and choreographer Spencer Liff, but also set designer Julian Crouch, lighting designer Kevin Adams, and costume designer Arianne Phillips.

Is Head Over Heels Good for Kids?

The show is most appropriate for those aged 10 and above. Children under the age of 4 will not be permitted in the theatre.
