The role of God is played by Sean Hayes (“Will & Grace,” Promises, Promises),(other than the role of God played by Hayes, there are two smaller parts: angels who lend God a hand) and the play is directed by Joe Mantello (whose many Broadway directing credits include The Last Ship, Casa Valentina, and Other Desert Cities). An Act of God premiered on Broadway just one year ago starring Jim Parsons, and received uproarious rave reviews. Following that run, An Act of God traveled to Los Angeles’ Ahmanson Theatre, where Sean Hayes took on the lead role and recently concluded his equally acclaimed performance. With such an exceptional reception out west, both Hayes and the producers were persuaded to bring the show back to Broadway just one year after its debut. This is Sean Hayes’ second time on Broadway; his first was the 2011 production of Promises, Promises, which got him a Tony Award nomination for Best Leading Actor in a Musical. An Act of God is produced by Jeffrey Finn, whose previous credits include The Elephant Man, I’ll Eat You Last: A Chat with Sue Mengers, Dead Accounts, and American Idiot.

Most notably, for his performance as Jack McFarland on NBC’s “Will & Grace,” won an Emmy Award, an American Comedy Award, 4 SAG Awards, and 6 Golden Globe nominations. Like the satirical publication on which it is based, the play is a hilarious riff on the Bible, along with a series of jokes and stories. Sean Hayes is a comedic master, and David Javerbaum has proved his comedic chops by earning 11 Primetime Emmy Awards for The Daily Show with Jon Stewart. The production takes place at the Booth Theatre, which most recently was home to Hughie starring Forest Whitaker, preceded by Tony nominated Best Play Hand to God.
