2023 A Dolls House: Jessica Chastain, Jamie Lloyd and Amy Herzog
The new show is directed by Tony nominee Jamie Lloyd, one of contemporary theater’s most revolutionary auteurs. The play is adapted by acclaimed playwright Amy Herzog. Academy Award winner Jessica Chastain stars in this ne production.
This new Broadway production makes the story freshly relevant from the original play that originally shocked audiences and brought forth a new era of theatre.
London's West End Opening Was Cancelled in 2020, Show Now Makes Debut on Broadway
Jamie Lloyd’s production company had planned to stage this show, with Chastain starring, in London, with rehearsals set to begin in 2020, but that idea was torpedoed by the pandemic and the window of opportunity passed in London.
Previous Broadway Versions of The Show
“A Doll’s House,” was first staged in Denmark in 1879 and has been produced on Broadway 13 times. The most recent production on Broadway was in 1997.
What’s A Doll's House Like?
The play concerns the fate of a married woman, who lacks opportunities for self-fulfillment in a male-dominated world. She has an epiphany when she realizes her husband only cares about appearances and loves himself above all other things. This is when she begins to make plans for her future without him.
This play was not directly written as feminist propaganda, but has since been recognized as such. Feminist groups around the world recognize this writing as the birth of modern feminism in Europe.
Is A Doll's House Good for Kids?
The feminist adult subject matter may be just too much for children under the age of 16 years old.
There is no late seating. Performances begin promptly at the scheduled start time. Due to the intimate setting, there is no readmittance if you leave your seat.
