With an amazing cast, incredible dancing and a gripping tale of hope and self-discovery, In the Heights is Broadway's hottest hit! In the Heights on Broadway Background

During its Off-Broadway run at 37 Arts, In the Heights quickly became an audience phenomenon and a critical success. The response was unprecedented: the musical was luring both traditional and non-traditional theatergoers and garnering a huge cache of accolades, including the Outer Critics' Circle Award and Lucille Lortel Award for Best Musical. After over 200 performances, In the Heights played its final Off-Broadway show on July 15th, 2007, and began preparations for a move to Broadway, which included enhancements to the script and score, as well as new additions to the cast and crew. In the Heights played its first Broadway performance at the Richard Rodgers Theatre on February 14, 2008 and celebrated its Opening Night on March 9, 2008. The show went on to win four Tony Awards including Best Musical.

What’s In the Heights Like?

In the Heights welcomes you with open arms to the close-knit community of Washington Heights in New York City. The story follows Usnavi, a young bodega owner, and the colorful characters that come through his store. Over the course of three days we meet the elderly neighbor he cares for as if she were family, the neighborhood girl he has long pined for, and a childhood friend returning home after a difficult first year of college. Although Usnavi is a beloved member of this community, he dreams of winning the lottery so he can return to his native Dominican Republic. Through a beautiful Latin score and fresh hip-hop choreography, this community rediscovers the meaning of home.
