for colored girls who have considered suicide when the rainbow is enuf is Ntozake Shange's affecting and poetic play about what it means to be an African-American woman. R&B singer India.Arie stars in this Broadway revival.
This new production of Shange's "choreo-poem" is produced by Whoopi Goldberg and DreamTeam Entertainment Group. The play appeared Off-Broadway at the Public Theater before commencing its original Broadway production in 1976, and playwright Shange herself co-starred in the show. for colored girls ... was nominated for a Tony Award for Best Play in 1977 and Trazana Beverley won a Tony for Best Actress in a Featured Role.
