Fyre Fest: The Musical on Broadway Background
Origins of the Project
The idea to adapt the infamous 2017 Fyre Festival into a stage musical emerged from the sheer absurdity of the event’s collapse. With social media images of luxury turning to chaos overnight, it became a perfect story for satire.
Creative Team
The project is produced by Taika Waititi and Rita Ora, blending their irreverent wit and pop sensibilities. Bryan Buckley is set to write and direct, with Paul Epworth, Grammy-winning songwriter and producer, composing the score. Set design will be led by David Korins, a Tony-nominated designer known for Hamilton and Dear Evan Hansen.
Vision and Tone
The musical is described as a “Greek-sized tragedy” and a biting indictment of influencer culture. It will balance absurd humor with sharp cultural critique, transforming a viral disaster into an entertaining yet reflective stage spectacle.
