Show Summary - Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer
Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer: The Musical is making its New York debut at Madison Square Garden!  The musical is based on the 1964 stop-motion TV special, Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, which became an American family classic and a staple of the Christmas holiday spirit through its repeated airing on television in the Christmas season, before being released on home video. The catchy song of the same name was first released in 1949, written by Johnny Marks, which was in turn based on a book by Robert L. May written in 1939. In light of this long history, this is the first time this story has become a musical theatre show in a major New York production. It is the tale of Santa Claus’ previously unknown ninth reindeer, whose red nose glowed so brightly that it allowed Santa Claus to make his rounds delivering presents, despite a horrendous blizzard. While this was the extent of the original book and song, the television special elaborated on the story, adding in a backstory of how Rudolph was a misfit child who was taunted by the other children, and how he developed a friendship with a misguided elf who really wanted to be a dentist. The stage musical builds this story out to even greater dimensions of fun and entertainment for the whole family! The script is adapted by Robert Penola, with arrangements and orchestrations by Timothy Splain, in a stage production conceived and directed by Jeff Frank and First Stage, and produced by Iconic Entertainment and Right Angle Entertainment.

Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer at the Theatre at Madison Square Garden
What Is Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer at MSG Like?
The musical of Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer is a special treat for children and adults alike.  In a nod to the satisfyingly vintage quality of the beloved television special, the stage show incorporates a blend of actors and puppets, which tells this story with an analog quality that is both engaging and charming. The show comes to New York City in the midst of a 50-city tour across the United States. The New York rendition, however, goes above and beyond being at the Madison Square Garden: the show includes new elements of flying and stagecraft, along with fantastical scenic and costume design. Now CBS’ most highly rated Christmas special of all time has found a new home on stage, with the visceral immediacy of delight that only a live show can bring. Including some of the most beloved songs from the television special, such as “Have a Holly Jolly Christmas,” “Jingle, Jingle, Jingle,” and “Silver and Gold,” and memorable characters like Yukon Cornelius and Herney the Elf.
