Two Broadway favorites, Liza Minnelli and Alan Cumming, will perform together in concert at The Town Hall next month. The concerts, to be held on March 13 and 14, will be in celebration of Liza Minnelli’s 67th birthday.
The pair are both well-known by Broadway fans for their turns in the musical Cabaret, though decades apart. Liza Minnelli starred in the 1972 film version of the Kander & Ebb classic, while Alan Cumming gave a memorable take on the Emcee in Sam Mendes’ acclaimed 1998 Broadway revival.
For their Town Hall concerts, which are based on an engagement they had on Fire Island this past summer, Minnelli and Cumming will sing both solo and together, sharing stories and jokes about show business and their personal lives.

A new edition of “Broadway Unplugged” is scheduled for Monday, December 3 at 8pm, and the event has announced a list of great Broadway performers who will be taking part. Cheyenne Jackson (The Performers), Laura Osnes (soon to be Broadway’s own Cinderella), Andy Karl (The Mystery of Edwin Drood), Julia Murney (Falling), Orfeh (Legally Blonde), Natalie Toro, William Michals, Jeffry Denman, and Bill Daugherty are currently on the roster. More names are expected to be announced soon.
A New York City theater tradition, “Broadway Unplugged” is produced by Scott Siegel. What makes these concerts different than your average concert featuring Broadway talent is that this one harkens back to the early days of Broadway by having the singers perform without the aid of microphones. In addition to allowing the audience to better appreciate Broadway songs in their pure, un-amplified form, “Broadway Unplugged” also gives its stars a chance to show off their chops by filling the 1,500-seat Town Hall theater space with their voices.

Broadway and cabaret have always had an intimate relationship, given that many of New York City’s most talented singers often travel between both worlds. The Broadway Cabaret Festival will give many of these fine performers a chance to shine in a series of events scheduled in mid-to-late October at The Town Hall in midtown.
With a new Jekyll & Hyde (starring Constantine Maroulis) soon on its way to Broadway, it is interesting to see that there will be a reunion of sorts of the original Jekyll & Hyde cast on October 13, when Linda Eder presents her concert “A New Life” as a part of the festival. Her former Jekyll & Hyde co-stars Robert Cuccioli and Christiane Noll will both be making guest appearances in the show.
The centerpiece of the Broadway Cabaret Festival will be “Broadway Originals”, a concert that will be held on October 21. “Broadway Originals” will give the audience a chance to see Broadway stars sing songs that they introduced in the original productions or revivals of Broadway musicals. Currently Alice Ripley, Chad Kimball, Tovah Feldshuh, Bob Martin, Matt Cavenaugh, Karen Ziemba, and Mandy Gonzalez are scheduled to participate.
The Broadway Cabaret Festival will conclude on October 26 with the concert “The Best of Broadway By the Year,” which will showcase the talents of many Broadway and cabaret performers, including Noah Racey, Christine Andreas, Beth Leavel, Kerry O’Malley, Karen Akers, and many more.
