Broadway To Dim Its Lights For Jean Stapleton on June 5

Jean StapletonShe was perhaps best known as the endearing Edith Bunker on the classic TV show All in the Family, but Jean Stapleton also had a notable Broadway career. In memory of the actress who just passed away at the age of 90 on May 31, the marquees of Broadway theaters will be dimmed on Wednesday, June 5 at 8pm.

“The theatre is where Jean Stapleton started, and she often returned to the stage throughout her lengthy and multi-faceted career,” stated The Broadway League executive director Charlotte St. Martin. “Her decades portraying a variety of roles on our Broadway and Off Broadway stages revealed her brilliance in believably playing many different characters. The range of her talent was also evident in that she could triumph in both musical comedies and serious dramas. She will be missed.”

Jean Stapleton’s many Broadway credits include Bells Are Ringing, Funny Girl (with Barbra Streisand), Damn Yankees, and Arsenic & Old Lace.
