The MTV reality TV show about the search for a new lead for the Broadway musical Legally Blonde is only on its second episode, so the winner is still unknown. However, it has been announced that the lucky lady will start performance in the Broadway show on July 23. The current Legally Blonde star, Laura Bell Bundy, will end her Broadway run on July 20.
Legally Blonde The Musical: The Search for Elle Woods debuts on MTV at 10pm tonight. The new summer reality TV series documents the process of finding and casting a new lead for the Broadway musical Legally Blonde. The TV program, which will air in a total of eight installments, is hosted by Haylie Duff (who has appeared on Broadway in Hairspray).
“Legally Blonde the Musical: The Search for Elle Woods,” a new MTV reality show, has set its debut date for June 2. Hosted by Haylie Duff (Hairspray), the 8-episode reality TV series follows the process of finding a replacement for the current star of Legally Blonde on Broadway, Laura Bell Bundy. Members of Legally Blonde‘s cast and creative team will appear on the show, and Broadway personality Seth Rudetsky will serve as music director and vocal coach to the Broadway hopefuls auditioning to win the role of Elle.
The Broadway production of Legally Blonde may be on strike-imposed hiatus right now, but fans can catch it on MTV tonight when the network re-broadcasts its live taping of the show at 8pm Eastern/Standard time tonight. This broadcast of the Broadway musical is extra special, though, because it will have the song lyrics streaming at the bottom of the screen. So you can beat the Broadway strike blues this Thanksgiving by singing along — it’ll be like having a Broadway show in your own living room! (Sort of.)
Today is the live taping of Legally Blonde, and MTV is rolling out the pink carpet for the event. Cast members from the MTV show “The Hills” will host, and there will be a pre-show event featuring other TV and tween celebs. Last week MTV gave out free tickets to fans of the bouncy Broadway musical, all of whom are 15-25 years of age and will be wearing pink (no, seriously!). This certainly ain’t your grandma’s Broadway!
It’s official, MTV will be taping the Broadway production of Legally Blonde to air on television. They will premiere it at 1PM on Saturday, September 29 as a part of a Legally Blonde: The Musical special event that will also include “Pink Carpet” festivities at the Palace Theatre and backstage interviews with the cast. The MTV airing is bound to get many teens and tweens excited about seeing the show live on Broadway, so if you want to catch it at a discount, you better act quickly!
Word on the street is that MTV is negotiating to film a performance of the Broadway musical Legally Blonde to be aired on the popular music television network. There are a lot of potential problems with such a proposal (in the past, videotaped versions of Broadway shows haven’t aired on TV until after the production closed), but it would be a great boost for Broadway to have one of its own touted on a youth powerhouse like MTV.
