It’s curtains for Curtains, Top Girls fall, and this is the last Sunday for Sunday in the Park with George. All three of these shows have their final Broadway performances today. Curtains announced its Broadway closing date months ago, Top Girls is finishing its scheduled Broadway engagement, and Sunday in the Park with George is finally closing after several extensions.
Curtains, the murder-mystery musical that opened on Broadway in March 2007, has announced that it will have its final Broadway performance at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre on June 29. That still leaves you plenty of time to catch David Hyde Piece (who won a Tony for his performance as a Broadway-obsessed detective) and company in this Kander & Ebb tuner. David Hyde Pierce, star of the Broadway musical mystery comedy Curtains, will be staying with the show until summer 2008. It is usually tough to keep a big name on Broadway for more than a year at a time, but Pierce has stated that he’s enjoying Curtains so much that he felt compelled to stick with it longer than he was originally contracted to. Pierce won a Tony Award last year for his role as Lt. Frank Cioffi, the Broadway-loving detective. He has appeared on Broadway a few times before Curtains too, most notably in Spamalot and The Heidi Chronicles.
