The Oprah TV shows in New York City did not go as smoothly as planned. With over 25,000 tickets to the show distributed, many fans complained that the venue and the amount of people in the audience made it feel impersonal. The quality and fell of TV show productions always suffer when the audience gets too large and each Oprah show in New York City had over 4500 people, which is over ten times larger than Oprah's normal audience in Chicago.
After the shows were complete, many New York City newspaper critics complained that Oprah was grandstanding on the back of the 9/11 tragedies to boost her ratings for her upcoming season. Oprah responded that she didn't need to boost anything as she is already tremendously successful and her fans will follow her anywhere, although her recent foray into XM satellite radio was a disaster, which resulted in very few new subscribers for the channel.
