The Dave Chappelle TV show currently tapes for Comedy Central with surprising regularity given its contractual road blocks, tickets are always pretty popular for this show. Dave's last name is often spelled incorrectly as "Dave Chapelle", although "Chapelle" does roll off the tongue a little better, Chappelle says as long as you don't call him Rick James, he is fine with it. Dave Chappelle's "I'm Rick James, Bitch" mental breakdown and paltry salary from Comedy Central, made this top comedian go AWOL to Africa right in the middle of the taping of the third season. He eventually came back to the USA, but not to Comedy Central, leaving the TV show dead in its tracks and CC execs scratching their heads. He went onto bigger and better things including stand up specials and selling out soccer stadiums, which are better formats for the talent comedian.

Born and raised in Washington, D.C., he studied acting at D.C.'s Duke Ellington School of the Arts and honed his skills as a laid-back yet socially attuned comic in the city's clubs. After making his movie debut as one of the merry men in Mel Brooks' Robin Hood: Men in Tights (1993), Chappelle concentrated primarily on his comedy career and appeared regularly on late night and cable television.
