New World Stages is located on the south side of West 50th Street, between 8th and 9th Avenues.
Sachs Morgan served as the theater designer of New World Stages, and the architects were Beyer, Blinder, and Belle. The interior design was done by Klara Zieglerova.
Originally a Loews Cineplex, the structure closed down in 2001 and was turned into an Off-Broadway theater complex. It re-opened as Dodger States in 2004, before being re-dubbed New World Stages in 2006. New World Stages has five stages with seating capacity ranging from 199 to 499. The complex also has a bar, lounge, and an art gallery.
New World Stages has had some long-running shows such as Altar Boyz and Avenue Q, which transferred here after a successful Broadway run. New World has, in fact, become a prime venue for Broadway shows looking to transfer to an Off-Broadway space where running costs are lower but that still has a good theater district location.
