Hairspray on Broadway Starring Patti LuPone - Closing Date - Show Summary - Photos
Hairspray Show Summary Hairspray is based on the cult film classic written and directed by John Waters, with a book by Mark O'Donnell and Thomas Meehan, music by Marc Shaiman, and lyrics by Shaiman and Scott Wittman. Hairspray is directed by Jack O'Brien and choreographed by Jerry Mitchell.
The musical's delightful score, which includes "Welcome to the '60s" and the infectious "You Can't Stop the Beat," takes Tracy from the stage of a 1960's dance show to a downtown R&B record shop and along the streets of Baltimore.
Hairspray Show Synopsis:
Welcome to the '60s! The stuffy 1950s are over and change is in the air. Baltimore's Tracy Turnblad, a big girl with big hair and a bigger heart, has just one passion, and that's to dance. Tracy wins a place on a local television dance program, "The Corny Collins Show" and, overnight, she is transformed from an outsider to a teen celeb. But can a trendsetter in dance beat the show's reigning queen, win the favor of heartthrob Link Larkin, and integrate a popular TV show without denting her 'do? Only in Hairspray!
