Arcadia Review and Age Recommendation
See our Broadway Show Summary page for a summary, our review, and information on age appropriateness.
Arcadia is currently playing at the following Broadway Theatre:
Skipping back and forth between 1809 and the present day, Arcadia is set at an English estate where two literary scholars try to piece together the events that took place there 200 years earlier. Full of intelligence and humor, this drama tackles subjects as varied as poetry, landscape architecture, and chaos theory.
Edward James Hyland
David Leveaux (Direction)
Tom Stoppard (Playwright)
Summary Alternating between 1809 and the present, Arcadia takes place at an English estate where two scholars are trying to piece together events that unfolded there two centuries earlier.
Age May be inappropriate for 10 and under. Children under the age of 4 are not permitted in the theatre.
Our Recommendation Arcadia is generally considered to be one of Tom Stoppard's greatest plays, and this revival definitely does it justice. In truth, Stoppard is not for everyone - his razor sharp English wit and his penchant for the esoteric (this play alone tackles landscape architecture, chaos theory, academia, and English poetry) can be a bit intimidating. But if you enjoy a great play of ideas, and you're prepared to be an attentive audience, Arcadia can be a hugely rewarding theatrical experience that excites the brain and touches the heart.
