Summary In this play by George Bernard Shaw, a young woman learns that the mother who gave her such an expensive education was only able to pay for it due to her success working as a madam.
Age Teens and Up. Children under the age of 4 are not permitted in the theatre.
Our Recommendation This is yet another of the Roundabout Theatre Company's solid but uninspired revivals, this time of a semi-classic Shaw play. Cherry Jones is dependably good as the smart, vivacious, brothel-owning title character, but Sally Hawkins is a bit shrill as her daughter (her voice is the main problem; the performance is fine). Although the play is not as shocking as it was in Shaw's day, it does raise still-relevant issues like differing feminist values and the fact that women are valued more for their bodies than their minds.
