Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson on Broadway
On the heels of a successful run at the Public Theater, this controversial and much-talked-about new musical comes to Broadway. Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson tells the story of our seventh president - with a twist. Infused with an emo rock sensibility, the musical takes historical liberties and utilizes lots of irreverent and silly humor as it shows Jackson's rise to military and political fame, all the while exploring themes such as populism and confronting the atrocities committed against Native Americans during this period in American history.

Summary Young Andrew Jackson (played by Benjamin Walker) rises from a tough childhood in frontier country to become a renowned general and eventually the president of the United States in this irreverent new musical that portrays Jackson as an emo rock star.
Age May be inappropriate for 12 and under. (Strong language, some sexual content.) Children under the age of 4 are not permitted in the theatre.
Our Recommendation On the surface this rock musical, which uses emo music (an emotional, confessional type of rock/pop/punk) to express its characters' frustration, may seem silly, strange, and even sophomoric - and it is. But Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson is also smart and ambitious, tackling a dark period in American history (the forced relocation of the American Indians) and presenting satirical critiques of political campaigning and populism that are still relevant today. Expect a whiny and petulant hero (who is really no hero at all), a young and talented cast who like to brood and pose, and some very dark, politically incorrect humor.
