Show Summary - The Devil Wears Prada
The Devil Wears Prada is a new musical based on the 2003 best-selling novel of the same name by Lauren Weisberger, as well as the 2006 film released by 20th Century Fox which starred Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, and Emily Blunt. The musical is written by the power collaboration of Elton John (The Lion King, Billy Elliot: The Musical, Holler If Ya Hear Me) and Paul Rudnick (Sister Act, I Hate Hamlet, regular contributor to the New Yorker). It is produced by Kevin McCollum, following a deal he struck with Fox to develop stage versions of their film properties, which also includes Mrs. Doubtfire and Diary of a Wimpy Kid. The story deals with a young aspiring writer who ends up working as the second assistant to a high powered editor-in-chief of a fashion magazine. Her tenure ends up being hellish as she is bossed around by her imperious superior and forced to do demeaning tasks that are beneath her qualifications. The source material has found great success. The book was on the New York Times bestseller list for 6 months, the film grossed $326 million worldwide, and Meryl Streep was nominated for an Academy Award for her performance as the editor Miranda Priestly in the film.

Should You See The Devil Wears Prada On Broadway?

Elton John Headshot
What Is The Devil Wears Prada Like?
With the experienced team of Elton John, whose compositions for The Lion King and Billy Elliot made those shows into long-running hits, as well as the comedic prowess of Paul Rudnick whose plays were deemed by Ben Brantley of The New York Times to prove him to be one of the funniest writers for the stage in the United States today, The Devil Wears Prada is positioned to make as big a splash on the stage as it did on the page and on the screen. Among Elton John’s many awards include Tony Award for Best Original Score for Aida in 2000, the Grammy Award for Best Musical Show Album in 2001 for Aida, and three Academy Award nominations for The Lion King in 1995 for Best Original Song for “Circle of Life,” “Hakuna Matata,” and “Can You Feel The Love Tonight,” the last of which he won. The Devil Wears Prada is an exciting new musical from some of the greatest creators of our time.
