Show Summary - Oslo on Broadway

Oslo comes to Broadway following a sold-out, highly reviewed Off-Broadway production at Lincoln Center’s Mitzi E. Newhouse Theater. After a hiatus, the show arrives at Lincoln Center’s largest venue, the Vivian Beaumont Theater.  Written by Brooklyn-based playwright J.T. Rogers (Blood and Gifts, Madagascar, The Overwhelming), the show deals with a crucial episode in the long and arduous struggle for peace in the Middle East.  Focusing on a Norwegian couple, whose behind the scenes talks led to the 1993 Oslo peace accords, the engrossing drama is both historically relevant and presently capitvating theatre. The play is directed by Bartlett Sher, whose previous directing credits include Blood and Gifts, Fiddler on the Roof, The King and I, The Bridges of Madison County, and many other fabulous shows both on Broadway and Off-Broadway. The cast includes two-time Tony Award winner Jennifer Ehle (The Real Thing, The Coast of Utopia) and Tony Award winner Jefferson Mays (I Am My Own Wife, A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder), in addition to Michael Aronov (Golden Boy), Adam Dannheisser (Fiddler on the Roof), Daniel H. Jenkins (Golden Boy), Christopher McHale (Macbeth), Daniel Oreskes (The Miracle Worker), Angela Pierce (The Norman Conquests), Henny Russell (The Audience), Joseph Siravo (The Light in the Piazza), T. Ryder Smith (War Horse), Anthony Azizi, Dariush Kashani, and Jeb Kreager. In spotlighting the invaluable contribution of little known individuals from a time in recent history, the play is a refreshing look on the impact one can make through one’s actions, as well as a fascinating peek into a complex historical period.

Should You See Oslo On Broadway?

Oslo in the Newhouse Theatre

What Is Oslo Like?

This gripping drama took the Lincoln Theater audience by storm when it premiered Off-Broadway in June 2016. With a sold-out run, the show was unable to extend, partly to the star Jefferson Mays’ previous commitment to appear on Broadway in the meantime in The Front Page. Fortunately, however, Lincoln Center decided to bring it to their largest venue, the Vivian Beaumont, to allow the show a chance to reach a greater audience. The show is darkly comedic, wide reaching, and set on a complex historial landscape. With a large cast, the play also paints and intimate portrait of the young Norwegian couple who played a crucial role in sealing a key agreement between Israel and the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO). The cast encompasses a diverse group of characters ranging from Israeli and Palestinian to Norwegian and American.

Is Oslo Good for Kids?

The show is most appropriate for those over the age of 12. Children under the age of 4 will not be permitted in the theatre.
