Show Summary - Nerds
Nerds: A Musical Dot-Comedy is a new show about the lives of Apple founder Steve Jobs and Microsoft founder Bill Gates. These two individuals had very different, yet in some ways similar, journeys from “nerds” inventing computer hardware in their garages to billionaires. To this day, Bill Gates is the richest person in the world, with a net worth estimated to be $79.2 billion. Though Steve Jobs never became quite as rich in his lifetime, his company Apple has gone on to revolutionize not only the computer industry, but also the way in which we communicate on a day to day basis for people around the world.

Nerds had its world premiere at the New York Musical Theatre Festival (NYMF), and then played at the Philadelphia Theatre Company in 2007, where it earned the Barrymore Awards for Outstanding Original Music and Outstanding New Play. It then played in 2013 at North Carolina Theatre, and returned to Philadelphia Theatre Company for a return engagement in November to December 2013. Now for the first time, this show is on Broadway at the Longacre Theatre with previews beginning April 1, 2016, and an official opening night on April 21, 2016. With a fresh creative team and highly relevant subject matter, Nerds is sure to be a comedic musical treat.

Should You See Nerds On Broadway?

Steve Jobs and Bill Gates fighting with light-sabers
  What Is Nerds Like?
The book and lyrics for Nerds are written by Jordan Allen-Dutton and Erik Weiner (who also collaborated on Adult Swim’s “Robot Chicken”), and the music is by Hal Goldberg (Off-Broadway’s The Children). The show is directed by Casey Hushion (associate resident director of Aladdin) and choreographed by Joshua Bergasse (Gigi, On the Town); this same creative team has been with the show since its inception. Upon the professional premiere at Philadelphia Theatre Company, reviewers called the show “a comic gem,” a “generation-defying show,” and “visually hot and musically adept.” In addition to telling the life stories and rivalry between Steve Jobs and Bill Gates, other supporting characters from the annals of tech history who appear in the musical include Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak and Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen.

Is Nerds Good for Kids?

The show is most appropriate for those over the age of 10. Children under the age of 4 are not permitted in the theatre.
