Show Summary - Irving Berlin Musical: Holiday Inn
Based on the 1942 film Holiday Inn, which starred Bing Crosby and Fred Astaire, and first gave the world the song “White Christmas,” Holiday Inn, the New Irving Berlin Musical is now a high energy, fun loving stage show. The musical features songs written by Irving Berlin, the musical genius behind such shows as Come Fly Away, Irving Berlin’s White Christmas, The Century Girl, Stop! Look! Listen!, and many incarnations of the Ziegfeld Follies. Most famously, the show incorporates songs including “Steppin’ Out With My Baby,” “Heatwave,” “Puttin’ On The Ritz,” “Blue Skies,” “Happy Holidays,” “Cheek to Cheek,” and “Shaking the Blues Away.” The musical had a successful trial run at the Goodspeed Opera House in East Haddam, Connecticut in fall 2014, earning very positive reviews and extending through the holiday season. Following the Goodspeed run, Holiday Inn then played the massive outdoor amphitheatre The Muny (The Municipal Theatre Association of St. Louis) in St. Louis, Missouri this past summer. The new book is written by Gordon Greenberg and Chad Hodge, and the show – in its past incarnations as well as on Broadway – is also directed by Gordon Greenberg. The choreographer is Denis Jones (Honeymoon in Vegas). This production is produced by Roundabout Theatre Company.

What Is Holiday Inn Like? Holiday Inn, The New Irving Berlin Musical promises to be an old-fashioned style musical that appeals to modern day generations. The story centers around a young man named Jim, who is doing quite well in show business but decides to settle down in a farmhouse in Connecticut. However, he soon misses the song and dance of his prior life. When he meets Linda, a schoolteacher with a great deal of performance talent, the two decide to rebuild his farmhouse into a performance venue, an inn with shows for each holiday. However, Jim’s friend Ted tries to lure Linda away to the glitz and glamour of Hollywood, and Jim’s dreams of love may come crashing down. With classic songs that will keep audiences humming long after the show, Holiday Inn is full of fantastic dance numbers and a wholesome story that is fun for the whole family.
Is Holiday Inn Good for Kids? Yes, the show may be most appropriate for children 6 and up. Children under the age of 4 are not permitted in the theatre.
