Skylight on Broadway Background

This play by David Hare (The Year of Magical Thinking, The Vertical Hour, Amy’s View) was last seen on Broadway for its premiere in 1996. This production is directed by Stephen Daldry (this season’s The Audience, Billy Elliot: The Musical) in a transfer from the West End production that played earlier this year. The three-character play stars Carey Mulligan (The Seagull, The Great Gatsby) and Bill Nighy (The Vertical Hour, Love Actually), who are both well-known stars of screen playing their second role on Broadway. The third character is played by Matthew Beard, making his Broadway debut. This cast transfers direct from London, where the show only finished its run on August 23, 2014. The performance of the cast is spectacular, as Skylight invokes a poignant and lasting impression that is sure to captivate theatre goers.

What's Skylight Like?

The show takes place in London. School teacher Kyra Hollis is visited by former love interest, Tom Sergeant. Tom visits Hollis after the passing of his wife. The two spend the night reviving their relationship as they discuss their evolved beliefs and perspectives. The three-person play is rounded out by Tom’s son, Edward, who is dealing with his own trials in coping with the loss of his mother. Edward had viewed Kyra as an older sister, and feels abandoned by her. Later on in the play, they are visited, unheralded, by Tom himself who pokes fun at Kyra for her unglamorous lifestyle. She cooks him a spaghetti dinner (Mulligan actually cooks the meal onstage), and they explore matters of life and love.

The show may be inappropriate for children aged 13 and under. Children under the age of 4 are not permitted in the theatre.
