Andrew Lloyd Webber's School of Rock The Musical

Show Summary - The School of Rock: The Musical
Based on the hit 2003 comedic film of the same name that starred Jack Black and went on to become a cult favorite of the hard to reach 18-30 demographic, The School of Rock is a new musical produced by Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Really Useful Group (amongst others listed in the producer section below). The musical score encompasses some songs from the original film, as well as additional tunes with music by Webber, and lyrics by Glenn Slater (Sister Act).  The book for the musical is written by Julian Fellowes, who created the TV series “Downton Abbey.”

Alex Brightman (Matilda, Glory Days, Big Fish, Wicked) plays the rock-obsessed Dewey Finn, however complete casting has not yet been announced for the production. The Broadway show The School Of Rock will begin performances in November 2015 at the Winter Garden Theatre, where Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Cats ran for 18 years and the highly acclaimed Rocky recently finished its run. Grammy nominated music producer, Rob Cavallo (worked with Dave Matthews Band, Green Day, Phil Collins and Kid Rock) has also been tabbed to contribute his creative talents to the show.

Should You See School of Rock On Broadway?

Jack Black in School of Rock movie
What Is School of Rock Like?
School of Rock is a heartwarming and hilarious story about empowering children through rock n roll. It is the story of a goofy rock musician turned substitute teacher who bypasses all the conventional teaching methods to really get through to his students through the language of rock. The show is directed by Laurence Connor (current revival of Les Misérables) and choreographed by JoAnn M. Hunter. This is the first time since 1971 that a musical by Andrew Lloyd Webber has premiered on Broadway, rather than in the United Kingdom (the last time was Jesus Christ Superstar, another rock musical). Though the story is based firmly on the film, this adaptation highlights more the stories of the children rather than the adults.

Is School of Rock Good for Kids?

Yes, this show is a great musical treat for children! However, children under the age of 4 are not permitted in the theatre.
