What Is the 2015 RADIO CITY CHRISTMAS SPECTACULAR® Like? The Radio City Christmas Spectacular show is renowned for its wonderful dancing, stunning sets and its grand spectacle. There is a flimsy story that links the various beautiful scenes together, but no-one really cares - it's Christmas!. This unforgettable spectacle is a holiday tradition that has been a special treat for New Yorkers and visitors alike for decades and will continuing doing so for many more generations.
Is RADIO CITY CHRISTMAS SPECTACULAR® Good for Kids?
Although the show was specifically designed for Children, The Radio City Christmas Spectacular does a great job of entertaining the whole family The scenes appeal to all ages and nothing is deemed inappropriate for children or boring for middle-aged or older generations. The show is a one-of-kind compelling experience plucked from a simpler time in history. The show feels updated to be somewhat contemporary, with amazing lighting and lots of hi-tech surprises.. Sounds too good to be true? Try seeing the show and you will be swept in the emotion and pageantry of this New York holiday staple.
The Best Seats in Radio City:
For non-RCCS shows in Radio City Music Hall (like music concerts and the NBA Draft) the best seats to see the show are in the center-orchestra section, close to the front. But for the annual Radio
City Christmas Spectacular the best seats will differ because the show is designed to be more of a grand spectacle that needs to be seen from a distance to be fully appreciated. Radio City Music Hall is somewhat cavernous and unlike most Broadway theatres, the Christmas Show has no problem in filling the whole theatre, although some sight lines are better than others, there are very few areas with poor sight lines for this show.
How The Different Scenes Change The Choice of Seats:
To complicate the matter a little further, the Radio City Christmas Spectacular Show contains a mixture of intricate and "localized" scenes combined with many large crowd pleasing elements and events. This means that being closer to the stage may not actually be better.
After careful consideration of all of the 6200 seats at every Radio City show, we have determined that the optimal seats are orchestra rows NN to A and seats 301 to 514. It is these seats that are the most optimal for your enjoyment of the Radio City Xmas Spectacular. The 12 Rows at the front of the orchestra (Rows AA to NN) should be avoided as they are too close to the stage, many elements of the "Big" show are missed, no advantage is garnered by seeing the actors' faces as the Christmas Spectacular is really all about the "Big and Spectacular" part of the show.
The front of the 1st mezzanine is a good value choice when no discounts for orchestra seats are left or when you are going to see a peak show, where there are no discounts. The back and sides of the 2nd and 3rd mezzanines should be avoided because the distance to the stage is just too far, measured at over 350 feet. Some people buy the cheapest seats they can find and reseat themselves in empty seats after 20 minutes. This strategy is not very good as its hard to move from the balcony to the Orchestra because your tickets are checked by staff, but you can often move around in your own section if there are empty seats after 20 minutes.
2015 RADIO CITY CHRISTMAS SPECTACULAR - The Show Story
The show opens with the Rockettes appearing as reindeer at Santa’s sleigh. They then imagine all of the toys that they will receive on Christmas Day and explore New York City at Christmas on a double decker bus, with an amazing 3D show.
Santa whisks a little girl and her mother off from buying gifts at the shopping mall to the North Pole. The little girl needs to go on a mission to find the special toy that has been kidnapped by a naughty group of imaginary creatures.
During her adventures we are taken on a wild ride of amazing scenes. Finally the happy family returns to New York City for a remembrance of what really matters: that Christmas is in the heart. The show is 90 minutes in length and appears without an intermission. Sight lines are good from all locations in the large theatre, although too close to the stage loses some of the impact of the Toy Soldiers scenes and the kick-lines, that are best seen from the rear of the orchestra or from the front of the mezzanine.
