First having premiered on Broadway in 1978, this is a revival of the classic screwball musical comedy On the Twentieth Century. This production will star the beloved actors Kristin Chenoweth (Wicked, Promises, Promises) and Peter Gallagher (The Country Girl, Guys and Dolls). It is directed by Scott Ellis (The Elephant Man, You Can’t Take it With You) and choreographed by Warren Carlyle (After Midnight, The Mystery of Edwin Drood).
This is a Roundabout Theatre Company production, appearing at the American Airlines Theatre on 42nd Street. The story centers around the relationship between a famous actress named Lily and a down-in-the-dumps theatre producer named Oscar. Oscar attempts to woo Lily into accepting the lead role for a project that he is working on in an attempt to win her heart. The production has been met with favorable reviews as evidenced by its five Tony nominations including one for "Best Revival of a Musical" and one for the "Leading Actress," Kristin Chenoweth.

What Is ON THE TWENTIETH CENTURY Like?
This musical comes from the traditions of farce, operetta, and screwball comedy. Kristin Chenoweth and Peter Gallagher star as a temperamental actress and a director, respectively, and the show deals with their behind-the-scenes relationship. The musical is based on three different source materials – a 1934 film Twentieth Century, a play of the same name written in 1932 by Ben Hecht and Charles MacArthur, as well as an unproduced play by Charles Bruce Millholland about his experiences working for the theatre producer David Belasco. Therefore, this show deals with the real inside scoop, but heightened in the way only musical comedy can do.
Is ON THE TWENTIETH CENTURY Good for Kids?
Children will get a kick out of the superb choreography, playful tunes, and gregarious humor. Due to mildly adult themes, it may be inappropriate for children under the age of 10. Children under the age of 4 are not permitted in the theatre.
