What Is THIS IS OUR YOUTH Like?
The lead actors are young film stars who are sure to shine on stage. The plot of the play involves adult themes such as cocaine use, abusive parents, and sexual exploits. Despite the less than upbeat themes, the story explores its characters with a great deal of love and heart, as well as a lot of humor. The writing is perceptive and witty, and it is sure to be an enjoyable time for audience members who like theatre that is both profound and relatable, exploring contemporary themes that are still relevant decades after their original conception.
Is THIS IS OUR YOUTH Good for Kids?
This show may be inappropriate for children aged 13 and under. It involves depictions of drugs, sex, and immorality. Children under the age of 4 are not permitted in the theatre.
'THIS IS OUR YOUTH' VIDEO:
VARIETY / STEVEN OXMAN "Michael Cera delivers a performance that is at once humbling, immensely likable, and wondrously instinctual. If Cera steals the show with his ability to meld humor and emotion, he does so because Tavi Gevinson is so clearly able to steal his character's heart. Kieran Culkin gives a fascinating performance. A play with depth, pathos and wit. Add talented actors and sensitive direction.
NEW YORK TIMES / VINCENT CANBY
"The wildly fibrillating heart of 'This Is Our Youth' has a ferocity that fuels its passion. The stage is teeming with always recognizable life. Enchanting and hilarious, comedies of such brio and darkly satiric edge are rare these days. 'Youth' is one of the best American plays of recent years."
CHICAGO TRIBUNE / CHRIS JONES
"'This is Our Youth' is strikingly funny, arrestingly fresh, caustic and compassionate."
CHICAGO SUN-TIMES / HEDY WEISS
“’This Is Our Youth’ lights up the stage. A profoundly sad, disturbing, tender and unexpectedly comic evening. Michael Cera steals the show. This emotionally upending, enduring comedy has something magical happening in it. ‘Youth’ is highly recommended.”
TELEGRAPH / CHARLES SPENCER "Lonergan has achieved something rare and precious. All three characters are observed with compassion, tenderness and humor. As Kenneth Tynan wrote of 'Look Back in Anger,' 'This is Our Youth' is the best young play of its decade."
