This Disney Theatricals production of The Lion King is based on the 1994 animated film of the same name. It is the story of a young lion named Simba who inherits his animal kingdom in Africa at a young age due to his father’s death, but under the pressure of leadership, he runs away and is raised by a comedic duo consisting of a meerkat named Timon and a warthog named Pumbaa. Meanwhile, his childhood friend Nala stays in the kingdom as it deteriorates under the rule of Simba’s scheming uncle Scar. All-grown-up Simba returns to save his kingdom and win Nala’s romantic affection.

SHOULD YOU SEE THE LION KING?

Lion King on Broadway
What Is THE LION KING Like?
Directed by Julie Taymor, this long-running musical favorite incorporates stupendous costumes and puppetry, breaking new ground on theatrical methods for humans to portray animals onstage. As the animals walk down the aisles, a good orchestra seat can mean the audience is arms’ length from the magnificent creatures. Furthermore, the score is absolutely wonderful, with such catchy favorites from the animated film as “I Just Can’t Wait To Be King,” “Circle of Life,” “Be Prepared,” “Can You Feel The Love Tonight?” and “Hakuna Matata.” This show is an amazing way to re-live the animated film while experiencing an entirely new theatrical treat.
Is THE LION KING Good for Kids?

Children will absolutely adore this show. Still, Disney recommends that The Lion King is best for children ages 6 and up, although performances are recommended for a General Audience. Anyone entering the theatre, regardless of age, must have a ticket, even if they sit on your lap.
