Monday, March 1, 2010

Come Fly Away Broadway ShowThe new Twyla Tharp show Come Fly Away begins performances at Broadway's Marquis Theatre (located in the Times Square Marriott Marquis Hotel) today. Hot off its run at the Alliance Theatre in Atlanta, the production features Keith Roberts and John Selya (both Tony Award nominees for their performances in Tharp's Broadway hit based on the songs of Billy Joel, Movin' Out). This dance musical, directed and choreographed by Twyla Tharp, is set to the music of legendary crooner Frank Sinatra (there are both new musical arrangements and original arrangements by Nelson Riddle, Billy May, and Quincy Jones). The show has a 19-piece live band, which plays along with recordings of Sinatra's vocals on such classics as "My Way," "That's Life," and "Fly Me To the Moon". Come Fly Away has its official Broadway opening on March 25.

Twyla Tharp's Sinatra Musical To Arrive on Broadway in March

Monday, January 4, 2010

Frank SinatraCome Fly Away, Twyla Tharp's new dance show based around the music of Frank Sinatra, will come to Broadway's Marquis Theatre on March 1. The piece was originally called Come Fly With Me and had its world premiere at Atlanta's Alliance Theatre. Tharp has created other dance shows using the catalogues of popular musicians, including the Broadway hit Movin' Out (using the music of Billy Joel, sung above stage by Michael Cavanaugh) and the Broadway flop The Times They Are A Changin' (featuring the music of Bob Dylan, as sung by a cast headed by Michael Arden). Come Fly Away, which has master recordings of Frank Sinatra's voice played against a live onstage band, includes such classic Sinatra songs as "My Way" and "Fly Me To the Moon". The show is about four couples who fall in and out of love during a music-filled evening at a nightclub.
