South Pacific To Close On Broadway This Summer

Saturday, February 20, 2010

South Pacific Broadway ShowLincoln Center Theatre has announced that it will be closing its much-acclaimed Broadway revival of the classic Richard Rodgers & Oscar Hammerstein II musical South Pacific on August 22nd. The Tony Award-winning production, which will have played more than 1,000 performances when it ends its run at the Vivian Beaumont Theater, was a tremendous hit for LCT and will live on as the national tour continues through 2011 (London and Australian productions are also in the works). South Pacific, which originally appeared on Broadway in 1949 and is based on James Michener's stories "Tales From the South Pacific," is about a Navy nurse who finds love with a French plantation owner during World War II. The current cast of the show features Laura Osnes (Broadway's Grease) as nurse Nellie Forbush and David Pittsinger as her love interest Emile de Becque.

Grease On Broadway Star Goes To The South Pacific

Friday, February 13, 2009

It has just been announced that Laura Osnes, the star of the recent Broadway revival of Grease, will take over the lead in Broadway's South Pacific when Kelli O'Hara departs the production in March. Replacing a Broadway veteran and multiple Tony nominee like O'Hara in a prestigious Broadway hit like South Pacific is a major sign of legitimacy for Osnes, who snagged her Broadway debut role as Sandy in Grease by winning a reality TV show, NBC's Grease - You're the One That I Want.

Broadway's South Pacific Announces Open Run

Saturday, April 5, 2008

The word of mouth was strong, but the ecstatic opening-night reviews sealed the deal -- South Pacific will now have an open-ended run on Broadway. The Rodgers & Hammerstein revival, playing at Lincoln Center's Vivian Beaumont Theatre, was originally scheduled to conclude its Broadway engagement on June 22. But the fact that the WWII-set Broadway musical has extended doesn't mean that it's easy to get tickets. South Pacific is already a runaway hit and many performances are sold out, so you better snag those tickets fast if you want to see it before 2009!

South Pacific Revival Opens On Broadway

Thursday, April 3, 2008

Tonight the first Broadway revival of South Pacific opened at the Vivian Beaumont Theatre at Lincoln Center. Given Broadway's revival mania, it is surprising that it took so long for this beloved Rodgers & Hammerstein musical to make its return to Broadway. The classic show, which first bowed on Broadway in 1949, features wonderful songs like "Some Enchanted Evening" and "Younger Than Springtime".
